Asian Athletics Championships : PU Chitra Gives 3rd Gold For India Win




India has won four medals on the final day of the Asian Athletics Championships in the Doha on the 24th of April. PU Chitra has defender her Asian title by getting a gold in the women’s 1500 meter race while on the other hand, Ajay Kumar Saroj finished the second while missing out an Indian double in the distance race. The women’s 4x400m relay team also won the silver, besides that Dutee hand rounded off India’s medal haul at the Stadium of Khalifa with a bronze in the women’s race of 200 m.
Chitra went past Bahrain Gashaw in the final stretch, a few meters before the finish line, and winning in 4 minutes, 15 seconds. This was the third time when India won the gold championship after the Gomathi marimuthu and the Tajinder Pal Singh Toor won a gold medal on the 22nd of April.

Furthermore, Dutee who also finished a disappointing on the fifth position in the 100m final a couple of days back, clocked 23.25 seconds to win in the women’s 200m. Dutee also had a slow start in the race and clawed her way back after the race of the first 100m, which is also going past three rivals to finish the third position. Salwa Naser of Bahrain has won gold in the 22.75 seconds while on the other hand Olga Safronova of Kazakhstan was second in 22.90s.
Indians also suffered a disappointment after the men 4×400 relay team, which finished the second, was got disqualified after an infringement at the time of the final race.
India’s finished the championships with the 17 medals, which makes them at the fourth in the standings. Bahrain topped the meet with the 11 gold medals, 4 bronze medals, and 7 silver medals which is followed by the Japan, China, and India.
